Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She's also an accomplished public speaker. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentary and analyses of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the director of operations. In addition, she works to highlight the problems surrounding sexual harassment and attack on women and other minorities in online spaces she is determined to break down the stigmas and stereotypes in the pop culture. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker, she has given presentations at TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the University. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s determined to make the series of videos on the internet which would explore gender representations in video games. But, she was the target of cyber-bullying. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it only strengthened her resolve to be a feminist media critic. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that examines how women are depicted in contemporary pop culture.
